MHC News

The purpose of the Michigan Horse Council is to provide individuals and organizations with a central authority that will support, encourage, supplement, and coordinate the efforts of those presently engaged in the constructive conservation, development, and promotion of the horse industry and horse community in the State of Michigan.

For current news and updates, including "Right to Ride" legislation, go to the Michigan Horse Council site.

MHC Trails Committee

Within the MHC is a very active Trail Committee which provides trail information on Michigan equestrian trails, works with the DNR and US Forest Service on trail issues, trail programs and trail development. The Committee also partners with other trail and greenway organizations to advance common goals and interests. The Committee handles the dispensing of Trail Grants to member organizations (SHTRA is a member) for trail improvements and maintenance on existing, or new, equestrian trails in Michigan.

A popular program is the Trail Mileage Program where patch is awarded for the first 250 miles ridden/driven and then bars are awarded for each additional 500 miles.

The Trails Committee offers a brochure listing equestrian trails in Michigan, sorted by area of the state, complete with contact phone numbers.

You can also order "Horseman's Guide to Michigan Trails" by John Faitel from their site.
