On Saturday May 3rd the Sleepy Hollow Trail Riders in cooperation with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources held the second annual Rural Heritage Plow Day. The weather that day was cool and comfortable, excellent weather for working teams. We had been quite concerned the weather production was for rain and cool for the Saturday event but it seems the Lord was with us and held off the rain. We plowed two separate plots totaling 8.5 acres which will be planted to clover and food plots for the wild life. There were 18 teams of Belgians, Percherons, along with one team of Belgian Mules. Two of the teams were three a breast belonging to Nathan Black and Dale Pollock. Wagon rides were provided to and from the parking lot to fields being plowed. We gave approximately 175 people a short rider should we say a short step back in time of 100 years or so. All had fun including teams and drivers. The 50/50 raffle netted $84.00, the Vera Thorton Painting brought in $124.00. Vera had donated two original one of a kind paintings choice was given to the winner, donations from wagon rides amounted to $96.00,Donation from Clyde Lewis of C.J's.World Photo Services came to $46.00.

Awards for best teamster and best dressed team were provided by Signature Ford of Perry and presented by Bobby Byels of Signature Ford. Best Teamster was awarded to Brenda Moyels of Mason, Best Dressed Team went to Don Brown of Perry. Each were awarded two #100 draft horse halters. Teamsters can always use new halters.

A very special thanks to the volunteers who helped that day Don & Pat Brown, Myron and daughter Amanda Kerston, Mike Wood. Lisa Black, Karen Craven, Sharon Fortin. Please forgive us if we missed someone in the confusion.
